Myron Nole! (Rolle commits to FSU)

If you follow college football recruiting there is one simple rule you need to keep in mind - never count out Bobby Bowden and Florida State. This is one lesson the recruiting experts have forgotten lately.

Last February, the 'Noles defied the odds and landed five-star running back Antone Smith right out from under the noses of instate rival Miami. Despite just about every recruiting expert and media service predicting otherwise, prep All-American Myron Rolle announced on national television on Thursday afternoon that he plans on signing with the Garnet and Gold.

"Depth chart favorable", Rolle said in a press conference carried by ESPNews. "Good fit academically. Good fit with coaches. Mickey Andrews is best DBs coach in nation. Looking to enroll in Jan. play in spring game and earn starting spot."

The five-star defensive back is probably the most highly sought-after recruit in the country. On the field, he combines a 6-foot-2 and 214-pound frame, with great speed and athleticism. Off the field, he boasts a 4.0 grade point average, a 1340 score on the SAT and hopes to be a neurologist some day. If that wasn't enough, he has a strong dedication to community service and is involved with several charitable organizations.

"It just think its part of my character, I guess," Rolle told Warchant.com in a recent interview. "My family has been raised to always think about others and give back. Coming from the Bahamas you see the poverty a little bit so you always just want to give back if you can. Whenever we talk to colleges, they always talk about the players that they have doing community service."

The nation's top rated defender made a trip down to Florida State back in early August and raved about his visit. Even though he was extremely positive about his time in Tallahassee, he has kept his feelings close to the vest ever since. In fact, for the past couple months it has been a six team race between FSU, Florida, Miami, Oklahoma, Michigan and Penn State, and nobody really had a clue about where he would go until his announcement.

Even though most of the schools recruiting Rolle were offered him a chance to play cornerback, Florida State specifically recruited the New Jersey native to play strong safety. It just so happens that the position is currently manned by a sixth year senior and will be wide open for competition next year. Rolle is on schedule to graduate from high school this December so he will have the opportunity to take part in spring practice, which should give him a real shot at earning the starting job by next fall.

Rolle becomes commitment No. 8 for the recruiting class of 2006.
