Corp in action
Record-breaking quarterback Aaron Corp of Orange (Calif.) Lutheran has accomplished a lot in his high school career, but being selected to play in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl definitely ranks near the top of the list.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound four-star quarterback has led his team to a top-10 ranking in Los Angeles. He has also competed in the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback camp, but Corp says being selected to play in the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl on Jan. 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is something he'll remember forever.
Corp, the No. 10 player in California, made an early commitment to USC.
"USC is a great school academically," he said. "The academic reputation there is one of the top in the nation, and that was really important for me. It's obviously close to home and the football there is second to none. I wanted to play for a school that's going to compete for championships, and USC is the best fit."
Corp most often gets compared to Matt Leinart, but it's another former USC quarterback that he idolizes.
"Carson Palmer is my sports hero,," Corp said. "He went to Santa Margarita, and that's a school close by. From what I hear he's a genuinely nice guy. He went to USC and is having great success in the pros. I also heard a story about how after he got a tendon replaced in his knee from a cadaver, he went and visited the family that it came from. He's become really close to the family, and that's something I really admire."
He hopes people will also admire him someday, especially after a strong performance in Fort Lauderdale.
"I want to play well," he said. "There's really nothing else to say other than I want to show people that I'm one of the best players in the country, and what better stage than in an All-American game on ESPNU."
