ACC Week 4 Recap
Boston College
Another big game from senior QB Matt Ryan propelled the Eagles to a 37-17 victory over Army. Ryan threw for 356 yards and three TDs and also scored on a run. BC is 4-0 for the first time since 1999. The Eagles haven't started 5-0 since 1954, when they played home games at Fenway Park.
Next: Saturday, vs. Massachusetts.
TBs James Davis and C.J. Spiller each scored twice once on a run, once on a pass as the Tigers won 42-20 at North Carolina State. Clemson scored on four of its first five possessions. Davis ran for 166 yards, with a 1-yard TD run and a 3-yard TD catch. Spiller rushed for 114 yards, scoring on a 44-yard run and on an 11-yard reception. Mark Buchholz kicked four field goals for the Tigers.
Next: Saturday, at Georgia Tech.
Sophomore QB Thaddeus Lewis had a big day, but it wasn't enough as the Blue Devils fell 46-43 to Navy. Lewis threw for 428 yards and four TDs. Navy kicked a 44-yard field goal at the gun to win it. Eron Riley caught six passes for 235 yards and four touchdowns. Navy outgained Duke 540-506.
Next: Saturday, at Miami.
Florida State
The Seminoles were off last week.
Next: Saturday, vs. Alabama in Jacksonville.
Georgia Tech
The Yellow Jackets lost their eighth in a row at Virginia, falling 28-23. Tech rallied from a 21-7 deficit to take a 23-21 lead, but the Cavs cashed in on a muffed punt late. Travis Bell kicked three field goals for Tech.
Next: Saturday, vs. Clemson.
The Terps blew a 21-point, third-quarter lead and fell 31-24 at Wake Forest in overtime. With the Terps readying to increase their lead to 24-3, Maryland QB Jordan Steffy threw an interception that was returned 100 yards for a TD. Keon Lattimore ran for 112 yards and a touchdown for the Terps.
Next: Saturday, at Rutgers.
Senior QB Kyle Wright had one of the best games of his career, throwing for 275 yards and two TDs as the Hurricanes beat Texas A&M 34-20 in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicated. UM led 24-0 at halftime and held the Aggies to 38 total yards in the first half. A&M was held to 69 rushing yards for the game
Next: Saturday, vs. Duke.
North Carolina
The Tar Heels were held to 164 yards and yielded 428 in losing 37-10 at USF. UNC QB T.J. Yates faced relentless pressure and threw four interceptions. Ryan Houston scored the Heels' only touchdown on a 5-yard run with 1:04 left.
Next: Saturday, at Virginia Tech.
NC State
The Wolfpack dropped their 10th in a row against I-A competition, losing 42-20 at home to Clemson. Starting QB Harrison Beck suffered a knee injury when he was sacked in the first quarter and did not return. The biggest bright spot for the Wolfpack was a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Darrell Blackman.
Next: Saturday, vs. Louisville.
QB Jameel Sewell, TB Cedric Peerman and DE Chris Long came up big as the Cavs improved to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the league with a 28-23 victory over Georgia Tech. Peerman ran for 138 yards and a TD, Long had a sack and several pass breakups and Sewell threw the game-winning TD pass. Virginia led 21-7 late in the first quarter, then had to rally in the fourth quarter to win it.
Next: Saturday vs. Pitt.
Virginia Tech
The Hokies used two return touchdowns to build a 41-3 halftime lead on their way to a 44-3 victory over I-AA William & Mary. CB Brandon Flowers scored on a 49-yard interception return and Eddie Royal scored on a 60-yard punt return for Tech. The Hokies had five sacks, but finished with only 287 total yards.
Next: Saturday, vs. North Carolina.
Wake Forest
The Demon Deacons rallied from a 21-point deficit to beat Maryland 31-24 in overtime. Wake sent the game into OT on a 6-yard TD pass with three seconds left. Wake trailed 24-3 late in the third quarter before CB Alphonso Smith returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown. Josh Adams scored on Wake's first possession in OT, then the Demon Deacons closed it out with back-to-back sacks on Maryland's possession.
Next: Oct. 6, at Duke.
