Royster named Big Ten Player of the Week

Penn State redshirt sophomore tailback Evan Royster is certainly off to a hot start.

With six rushing touchdowns through his first two games, the first player to ever accomplish that feat under Joe Paterno, Royster is making a huge splash.

Today, the Big Ten recognized his accomplishments by naming him as one of three offensive players of the week.

On a day filled with career-highs, none may have been more impressive than Royster's, who ran wild on the Oregon State defense for 141 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 carries and through only three quarters of play. That's an average of 8.3 yards per carry.

It was his second career 100-yard rushing game.

The last Nittany Lion to score six touchdowns in consecutive games was tailback Larry Johnson, who rushed for eight touchdowns against both Indiana and Michigan State in the final two games of the 2008 season.

Joining Roster on the list of three players who were named as Big Ten offensive players of the week include Michigan State's Javon Ringer (5 rushing TDs, 34 carries for 135 yards, 205 all-purpose yards) and Minnesota quarterback Adam Weber (21-for-25 for 233 yards, three passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown).

The last Nittany Lion to win an offensive player of the week award was tailback Tony Hunt during the 2006 season.
