Miami QBs defend offensive coordinator Nix

After scoring just three points against Florida last weekend, Miami fans came down hard on Hurricanes offensive coordinator Patrick Nix and a UM offense that didn't throw the ball downfield much against the Gators.

Coach Randy Shannon said that the team called downfield passes, but that receivers weren't open.

Quarterbacks Robert Marve and Jacory Harris rushed to Nix's defense.

"I trust Coach Nix," Marve said. "Everyone has an opinion about everything, but when I line up under center I have complete faith in what he's doing. We've played what, two games so far?

"We scored 52 points the first game and no one really said anything then. Then we played a top-five team in their place. So let everyone say whatever, but I have Coach Nix's back 100 percent. I believe in what he's doing and we're going to get this done."

Harris added, "Coach Nix is a great offensive coordinator. He calls great calls and makes things happen. I don't understand those (negative) comments, but we're not worried about those things."

Marve said he wasn't frustrated at not getting big downfield passing plays.

"The ball didn't really bounce our way all night, but at the same time we fought - so I was proud of that," Marve said. "I was very excited how hard the team played, how we did move the ball. We got stuck on little third downs."
