After long wait, Seattle lineman chooses Beavers

The Oregon State football program continues to roll along. The Beavers are racking up wins on the football field and off the gridiron they're winning recruiting battles as well. The spots in the Class of 2009 are filling up fast and on Sunday, one more was taken when Grant Enger, a hard-working 6-foot-6, 250-pound offensive lineman from Seattle (Wash.) O'Dea High School, decided that he would like to join in the fun that's Oregon State football.

"I called Coach (Mike) Riley today and committed to Oregon State," Enger said on Sunday. "It just felt right and I decided that's where I wanted to play college ball. The overall environment there - it's all like a family and that's really important to me."

Enger had been stewing on his decision for quite some time, choosing the Beavers over offers from Washington and Stanford. His choice was certainly one the Beavers coaching staff loved hearing about.

"(Riley) was happy - he was in the room with a bunch of his assistants and you could tell everybody there was yelling," Enger said. "It was pretty cool. I talked to Coach (Mike) Cavanaugh too and he told me to bring my corduroy jacket. He had come up to my school before and saw me wearing a courduroy jacket and had said that it was an 'Oregon State' jacket. It was a little joke between us."

From all that Enger understands, he'll be playing offensive tackle for the Beavers. He focused on his senior season before deciding and now knows there will be more work to do.

"We didn't have the best year as a team, but it was still good," Enger said. "I played OK but I know I still need to work on everything to get better."

Enger has not yet made his official visit to campus but hopes to schedule that in the near future.
