Lauderdale, FL (St. Thomas Aquinas)-named third team All-South by Lindy's Recruiting ... scout Max Emfinger rated him second among South kickers ... a first team 4A all-state pick and a member of the Florida Super 24 team that played against Georgia in the states' annual game ... hit 15 of 18 field goals as a senior ... had three field goals over 50 yards, the most in the state ... made the second longest ever field goal in the state's prep history (58 yards) ... also hit from 54 and 52 yards ... reputed to be a fine "placement" punter ... also played soccer . . .

EDGAR BENNETT, RB, 6-2, 198, Jacksonville, FL (Lee)-a first team 4A all-state team member as well as a member of the Florida Times Union Super 24 . . . Super Prep Magazine picked him to its All-Dixie team ... was listed as the fourth best "speed back" in the Southeast by scout Max Emfinger ... rushed for 1,300 yards on 165 carries and scored 15 touchdowns ... was also listed as one of the top 50 players in Florida by Lindy's Recruiting ... his team was 20-1 over the last two years ... MARION BUTTS, FB, 6-1, 240, junior, Sylvester, GA (Worth County H.S./Northeast Oklahoma A&M J.C.)-he could be the answer to FSU's experience problem at fullback ... listen to offensive coordinator Wayne McDuffie describe him: "He's probably the most physical fullback I've ever seen on film. He's mature and he's a man. He'll come in here at age 20 going on 23. That's what I like about him" . . . GENE HOUPE, OL/DL, 6-4, 255, Statesville, NC (Statesville)-although he played mostly offensive line and tight end in high school, he could get a look at defensive line ... a member of the Greensboro News and Record all-state team ... listed by Lindy's Recruiting as one of the top North Carolina blue chips ... named to Super Prep Magazine's All-American squad ... as a tight end, caught 20 passes for 380 yards and three touchdowns ... bench presses 405 ... wants to major in criminology ... has a twin brother who is a basketball prospect ...

BRAD JOHNSON, QB, 6-6, 195, Black Mountain, NC (Swannonoa-Owen)-one of eight quarterbacks picked to the Parade and Super Prep Magazine All-American squads ... also picked to the Bally team ... although he quarterbacked a run-oriented team, he completed 78 of 153 passes for 1,196 yards and nine TDs ... averaged 40.5 yards as a punter and kicked three field goals . . named to the Greensboro News and Record all-state team . . . an outstanding basketball player who was also considered a major college prospect in that sport, Johnson was the 3A Player of the Year in North Carolina ... is still strongly considering playing that sport also at FSU ... president of his senior class at Owens and also the FCA president ... his given name is James, his middle name Bradley ... has been a longtime friend of FSU senior Terry Warren, as their fathers worked at the Ridgemont Boys Camps in North Carolina for many years . . .
