A closer look at FSU's 2018 offensive line class
New defensive coordinator Harlon Barnett received plenty of cheers when he told fans at Florida State’s annual Signing Day Party that his defenses would play, “fast, physical and aggressive.”
New offensive line coach Greg Frey might have warmed even more Seminole hearts when he insisted his linemen would do the same.
During his 20-plus years a college assistant coach, Frey has earned a reputation for building strong, physical offensive fronts. On Wednesday, with the signing of three more OL prospects -- to go along with early enrollee Christian Armstrong -- Frey believes he has taken the first steps toward doing the same at FSU.
While Armstrong is the highest-rated of the linemen -- he’s a four-star prospect and the nation’s No. 23 offensive tackle -- Frey said he is very excited about the athleticism, size and upside of all four.

Although Armstrong was listed by Rivals as an offensive tackle, Frey said it remains to be seen where he lines up in college. His athletic ability would make him a good fit for tackle, but he also has the strength to line up in the interior.
“He’s sort of that guy that can play a lot of different positions,” Frey said.
Armstrong, who chose FSU over Auburn, Florida and others, has gotten a head start on the other freshmen by enrolling in January. That has given Frey an opportunity to see how he interacts with teammates and also see what kind of progress he’s making in the weight room.
So far, Frey said, the results have been all positive.
“He’s got a great demeanor,” said Frey, a former FSU offensive lineman himself. “Very quiet. Just a hard worker. He’s fitting in real well in the room.”
