Alabi lost for the season, Vaughn indefinitely

Two Florida State freshmen basketball players – Solomon Alabi and Julian Vaughn – will be sidelined because of medical conditions that need to be corrected in order to allow both players to recover as soon as possible to continue their productive careers. Alabi will undergo surgery on Wednesday to correct a tibial stress fracture in his right leg and will be out indefinitely and Vaughn will be out indefinitely while undergoing medical testing.

"I feel badly for Solomon and Julian because they were both beginning to understand our system and were starting to develop as college basketball players," said Seminole Head Coach Leonard Hamilton. "The well-being of our student-athletes is the most important thing for us to consider as coaches. Both Solomon and Julian will receive the best care possible and, when they return to the court, will continue to develop as basketball players. They will be outstanding college players at Florida State during their careers."

Alabi, who has played in nine of the Seminoles' first 14 games of the season, is averaging 10.3 minutes played per game and 3.9 points scored per game. With limited practice time while working to recover from the fracture during his first semester at Florida State, Alabi has begun to show the ability the Seminole coaching staff knew he had when he came to campus to begin the fall semester. Vaughn has played in all 14 of Florida State's games and is averaging 4.1 points and 15.1 minutes played per game. He has started seven of the Seminoles' first 14 games of the season.

Florida State (10-4) opens its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule as it travels to play at Georgia Tech Sunday at 5:30.
