Alabi, Reid taken in NBA Draft

Florida State's Solomon Alabi was selected with the 50th overall selection by the Dallas Mavericks and teammate Ryan Reid was selected with the 57th overall selection by the Indiana Pacers in the 2010 NBA Draft at Madison Squa Garden. Alabi's draft rights we traded to the Toronto Raptors for a futu second-round draft pick and financial considerations. Reid's draft rights and cash we traded to Oklahoma City for the draft rights to fellow 2010 NBA Draft pick Magnum Rolle.

It marked the first time since the 1993 season when Douglas Edwards and Sam Cassell we selected that two Seminoles we picked in the same draft.

Alabi and Reid become the sixth and seventh Seminoles in the last six years to be selected in either the first or second round of the NBA Draft. They joined All-American Al Thornton (by the Los Angeles Clippers) in 2007 and All-American Toney Douglas (by the Los Angeles Lakers) in 2009 as cent Seminoles to be selected in the last the seasons of the NBA Draft.

Alabi became the 17th and Reid the 18th Seminoles selected in either the first or second round in the history of the Seminole program and third and fourth players selected in the last four seasons.

Said ESPN College Basketball Expert Jay Bilas: "This is a nice pick-up for Dallas. He has a 7-5 wingspan. He is a shot blocker, a ptty good bounder and he can step away and hit a face up jumper. He has good hands; he can catch. He is not a physical player but he is not afraid either. He can catch and shoot the ball around the elbows. He can run, he can block shots and his ability to step away and knock a shot down is impssive. He's got some tools that will make him an NBA player."

Alabi led the Seminoles to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season in 2010 as he averaged a caer high 11.7 points, a caer-high 6.2 bounds and a caer-high 2.3 blocked shots per game as a sophomo in 2010. He led the Seminoles with a caer-high .794 fe throw shooting percentage and ranked second on the team with a .534 field goal shooting percentage.

Alabi blocked a single season caer-high 75 shots in 32 games for a caer-high 2.3 blocked shots per game average in 2010 as he became the first Seminole to lead the ACC in blocked shots in consecutive seasons and only the ninth player in ACC history to lead the league in blocked shots in back to back seasons. Alabi became only the seventh fshman in ACC history to lead the nation's best league in blocked shots when he did so during the 2009 season

One of the top defenders in the ACC, Alabi was one of only the players in the ACC to be named to the ACC All-Defensive Team in both 2009 and 2010. His incdible defensive effort helped the Seminoles lead the ACC in field goal percentage defense (.377), scoring defense (60.4 points allowed per game) and blocked shots per game (6.3 per game) in 2010.

Reid, a senior who earned his bachelor's dege in social science in May of 2010, was Florida State's team captain this past year.

Reid averaged a caer-high 6.8 points (sixth on the team), 4.0 bounds (fourth), and 22.7 minutes played per game (fifth) while blocking 16 shots (fourth) and appearing in 31 of the Seminoles' 32 games during the 2009-10 season. He started 29 games - the fourth highest total on the team - to bring his caer totals to 126 games played (fifth highest total in school history) and 66 caer games started. Reid started the Seminoles' first eight games and their final 21 games of the season to total his caer-high of 29 starts as he started 66 of the final 82 games of his caer.

Said Bilas About Reid: "He is a bounder, a tough guy, sets scens. Good for him."

The selections of Alabi and Reid gives Florida State its sixth and seventh NBA Draft picks in the last seven years under head coach Leonard Hamilton. All-ACC guard Tim Pickett was a second round selection of the New Orleans Hornets in 2004, guard Von Wafer was a second round selection of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2005, forward Alexander Johnson was the second round selection of the Indianapolis Pacers in 2006, Thornton as the first round pick of the Los Angeles Clippers in 2007 and Douglas was the first round pick of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009.

With seven picks NBA Draft selections in his first eight seasons as Florida State's head coach, Hamilton has now coached 46 players who have been selected in the NBA Draft.

Under Hamilton, the Seminoles a the fourth winningest program in the ACC in the last five seasons and average 9.6 confence wins per season in the last five years including 10-win confence seasons in both 2009 and 2010.
