The Florida State media guide calls Charlie Ward the most heralded athlete in the history of college football. There's a good reason for that. During his Seminole career the Thomasville, Georgia native won over 30 awards including the 1993 Heisman Trophy. He also set 19 school and seven ACC records while starting for two years at quarterback. Ward led FSU to its first national championship in 1993 and set the standard by which all other college quarterbacks are judged.
Ward's senior season was one of the best ever by a college quarterback. He won literally every award he was eligible for that year. In his final season the fleet-footed signal caller completed nearly 70 percent of his pass attempts, threw for 27 touchdowns against only four interceptions, and racked up over 3,000 yards passing. That gave him an impressive 157.8 quarterback rating. He also ran for another 339 yards and four touchdowns.
Ward is one of seven players to have their jerseys/numbers retired. Also, Ward's jersey is on permanent display inside the Seminole locker room.
