Butler excelled both at safety and cornerback at Florida State. Earned consensus All-American honors in 1989 after moving from safety to cornerback to replace Deion Sanders. Finished that season among the nation's leaders with seven interceptions and returned one for a touchdown. He is also among FSU's most recognized players because of his role in the "puntrooskie" versus Clemson in 1988. Butler finished his career with 194 tackles, nine interceptions, two fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles, one sack and 14 passes defensed. As a senior he had a then school record of 139 return yards, breaking the old mark set by Deion Sanders.
As successful as Bulter was at Florida State he was even more so in the NFL. He was a standout for the Green Bay Packers for 12 years before retiring last year. Butler ranks fourth all-time in interceptions for the Packers. He has four career Pro Bowl appearances and played in two Super Bowls and won a ring in 1997.
