DeMarcus Walker's legacy is firmly established. He won a national title as a freshman and stayed all four years, which is becoming a rarity among high-end players in college football's current landscape.
Walker, who ranks second in the FBS with 13 sacks, helped Florida State's pass rush go from a listless 17 sacks in 2014 to No. 1 in the nation with 41 sacks in the final week of the 2016 regular season. He's recorded back-to-back seasons of more than 10 sacks and is now No. 3 in career sacks at FSU.
He's also provided a bravado that has been backed up by moments like "The Block at The Rock," when Walker blocked Miami's extra-point attempt with 1:38 left in the fourth quarter to seal FSU's 20-19 victory.
Perhaps the only thing left for him to achieve in his FSU career is to beat rival Florida for one last time at 8 p.m. Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium. If it happens, Walker and his classmates will be the only group in school history to go undefeated against the Gators and the Hurricanes over a four-year span.
"I'm not worried about that," Walker said. "I'm just going in there with the mindset of playing great football. I'm just happy that it's an 8 o'clock game."
FSU (8-3) has won the the last three games and five of the last six against Florida (8-2). The Seminoles cruised to a 37-7 win over the Gators in Walker's freshman year. As a sophomore, it was a bit more a contest with the Seminoles taking a 24-19 win.
Walker's penchant for the big moment came during last year's 27-2 win at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville.
