Best for last? 4-star OL Simmons to make decision after FSU official visit

After a busy summer of official visits, four-star offensive tackle Lucas Simmons made his fifth -- and final -- official visit trip to Florida State this past weekend before announcing his decision in the coming weeks.

Simmons brought a number of family members with him on the trip and raved about his connection with the staff and what the current FSU offensive linemen had to tell him about the Seminoles' program.

“It went really good. It was good for my parents to see it too,” Simmons said. “I have been talking about Florida State with them for a long time, but they finally got to put a face and a name, kind of to say. It was really, really good.”

With his parents by his side, Simmons said he was able to get further perspective on what FSU has to offer.

“It means so much. Of course, it comes down to me. I am the one who will spend four years at wherever school I go to. So it's not their decision, it’s mine. But I really, really appreciate their input and everything,” Simmons said. “My dad, he’s very specific when it comes to wanting to know about facts. So we asked a lot of great questions. And my mom is a great people-reader. It was the best of both.

“I feel good because they’ve been thinking what I’ve been thinking too. They think what I think as well. We’re on the same page.”

The Rivals250 member had particularly high praise for FSU head coach Mike Norvell.

“He has what I am looking for in a coach," Simmons said. "And I think he leads the program really, really well. And he also thinks that I can fit in at Florida State as well. It's always good chatting it up with him, I really like him as a person.”

During the three-day trip, Simmons spent plenty of time with his main contact in ’Noles offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins.

“It was great, it was really great. On our meeting, we didn’t have these typical presentations about what he’s done and who’s he’s put in the league, none of that,” Simmons said. “He had tape of me from my Mega Camp at Florida State last year, and we kind of looked at how I have developed from here to now.”
