Lawing's track record helps FSU land 2 DE commits on Junior Day
You have to assume Florida State defensive ends coach Brad Lawing was smiling from ear to ear after the Seminoles' first Junior Day on Saturday.
With National Signing Day for the 2018 recruiting class nearly a year away, Lawing and the Seminoles were able to pick up commitments from two of the state's most talented defensive ends -- Miami's Kayode Oladele and Orlando's Stacy Kirby.
Not surprisingly, both players had very high praise for Lawing and how they would be used in the FSU defense.
Lawing has been stockpiling impressive defensive ends since he was hired by head coach Jimbo Fisher in early 2015. In the 2016 class, FSU landed 6-foot-5 pass-rusher Brian Burns, who went on to record 9.5 sacks as a freshman. Then in 2017, they snared 6-5, 241-pound Josh Kaindoh, who is a five-star prospect, and 6-6, 248-pound Tre Lawson.
After announcing his commitment on Saturday, Kirby said he was impressed with Lawing's track record of producing elite defensive ends. This past season, senior DeMarcus Walker finished second in the country with 16 sacks, and the Seminoles' defense ranked first in sacks per game with 3.92.
