Florida State cornerback Avis Commack was arrested Friday on a charge of felony grand theft. He was booked and released by the Leon County Sherriff's Office and was not required to post bail.

According to Major Jim Russell, the deputy chief of the FSU Police Department, a warrant went out for Commack's arrest over a stolen iPad that was reported to the FSUPD by a female victim on Dec. 6.

According to the report, the victim was working in a computer lab in University Center D - where the football facilities are located - around 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 6. The victim left to go get a drink and continued to study. As she began to leave around 11 a.m. she noticed that her backpack was gone, which had her iPad inside.

The FSUPD investigator assigned to the case asked the victim if she had ever used her iPad to log on to the university's network. When she told the investigator that she had, the FSUPD got the tracking information from her stolen device and began to track whether it had logged onto the network since being stolen on Dec. 6.

By Dec. 9, the device had popped up three times in different locations across campus. It was allegedly logged in several times with Commack's student login information.

The officers came to University Center D - the football facility and offices - to meet with Commack. Russell said that Commack handed over the iPad and told the officers "Here, this is the iPad I found."

Commack told officers that he found the iPad in the stairwell on Dec. 8 and wiped away the old information on the iPad and inputted his own earlier in the day on Dec. 9. Accordnig to the report, he told officers that he realized it was wrong to keep the iPad.

He was not arrested immediately. The victim identified the iPad as hers and a warrant was issued on Wednesday. When recovered, the FSUPD said that the iPad's user ID had been changed to Commack's e-mail address. Commack turned himself in on Friday.

Any stolen item valued between $300 and $5,000 is considered a third-degree felony. It is university policy that no athlete can represent the school while felony charges are still pending.

FSU coach Jimbo Fisher declined comment following Saturday's practice.

Commack also graduated from Florida State over the weekend. Commack, a redshirt junior from Jacksonville, was a reserve cornerback for FSU in 2011. He played in all 12 games, recording nine tackles.
