Commitment 'coming up soon' for 4-star OL/DL Antavious Woody

It has been no secret that four-star Alabama lineman Antavious Woody is extremely high on the Florida State Seminoles.

And with FSU landing commitments from four of nine official visitors this weekend, fans and media naturally started to wonder if Woody might be next to jump on board.

That didn't happen just yet, according to the Rivals250 member, but it also might not be that far off.

"My commitment is coming up soon," Woody said Sunday, acknowledging that he did think about pulling the trigger for the Seminoles this weekend. "In a few days."

At the heart of Woody's love for Florida State has been his relationship with the Seminoles' coaches, most notably offensive line coach Alex Atkins and offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham.

While Woody could play either offensive line or defensive line at the next level, he definitely seems to have the strongest relationship with FSU's coaches on the offensive side of the ball.

"Those guys stay in touch with me every day to make sure I'm good," Woody said. "Just need to continue to build the bond."

What made this weekend even more special for the No. 5-rated prospect in the state of Alabama was the opportunity to spend time with the Seminoles' players. Woody said it was just further confirmation that FSU would be a great place to continue his football and academic career.

"The bond that the fellas have here," Woody said, when asked what stood out about the official visit. "Just the connection and comfort here was so high this weekend."

Another highlight was seeing two other offensive line prospects -- Qaeshon Sapp and Kanaya Charlton -- go public with their commitments to the Seminoles.

"They made their decision and loved it," Woody said.

As a competitor, Woody said he loved taking on other players and coaches in a variety of activities this weekend, including bowling and ax throwing.

Trash-talking with Atkins was definitely on the agenda.

"[He] tried to show me he can bowl, but he can't," Woody said. "It's always great being around him. That's my main guy. ... He always makes sure you are staying on the right path all the time."

While some schools are specifically recruiting him as a defensive tackle, Woody said he doesn't have a preference for either side of the ball. He believes he can show off his athleticism at either spot.

When asked about the most important factors in his decision, Woody said he's looking for a school, "that is going help me with academics and a school that's going to invite me in and is home."

As of right now, the leader in that race is Florida State.

"Yes sir, it's here," Woody said. "They are so positive and genuine about everything. I'm even more sure on my decision."

No official visit would be complete without a one-on-one conversation with the head coach, and Woody said Mike Norvell's message hit home.

"He talked about the brotherhood here and that trust is everything," Woody said, adding that he plans to come back to Tallahassee on Sept. 5 for Florida State's season opener against Notre Dame.

"I know I'm for sure going to be at the first game," he said. "That's going to be wild. Just get to see what the atmosphere is like."
