Warchant.com, the largest and longest-running site devoted to covering Florida State athletics, is proud to announce the hiring of veteran sports writer Corey Clark as its new senior writer.

Clark comes to Warchant from the Tallahassee Democrat, where he spent more than three years as the newspaper’s lead sports columnist and the previous five as its Florida State beat writer. He had been at the Democrat since 2007, and he has nearly 20 years’ experience in the business.

The hiring reunites Clark with Warchant managing editor Ira Schoffel, with whom he worked at the Democrat and previously at a newspaper in Georgia. Clark and Schoffel also are two-thirds of the popular weekly radio show and podcast, “Seminole Headlines,” which also features ESPN-Tallahassee’s Jeff Cameron and airs on 97.9-FM Tallahassee.

At Warchant, Clark will continue writing his popular witty columns, while also being featured regularly on our morning radio show, “Wake Up Warchant,” which also airs on 97.9-FM Tallahassee from 6-7 a.m. on Monday through Friday. Clark also will be featured in Warchant’s expanded video offerings.

Clark adds even more power to a Warchant lineup that now features nearly 50 years of experience covering Florida State sports. Schoffel has been covering Florida State full-time for more than 15 years, and Warchant publisher Gene Williams has been on the beat for more than 20. Recruiting analyst Michael Langston has been covering recruiting in the state of Florida since 2003.

“Adding Corey to the Warchant.com team was a no-brainer,” Williams said. “The combination of Ira and Corey gives Warchant’s subscribers the top writing team in the Seminole sports market. In addition, both bring a ton of experience and unique insight into all of Florida State’s sports teams.”

Williams founded the site in 1996, when it originally was known as FSUNoles.com, and has built it into one of the largest and most successful on the Rivals network.

Clark is a University of Georgia product but has followed Florida State from a young age because his father, John Clark, was an FSU alum and a longtime supporter of Seminole athletics. Before his time at the Democrat, Clark was an award-winning sports writer at three newspapers in Georgia -- the Gwinnet Daily Post, Valdosta Daily Times and Thomasville Times-Enterprise.

Clark’s work will begin appearing at Warchant immediately.

"I'm really excited for this opportunity," Clark said. "For years, I've admired what Gene has built here -- I actually became a member of the site back in 2001 -- and I've already proven I can work with the Schoffel guy. So this seemed like a great fit for me. I will always remember my time at the Democrat fondly. They were great to me over there. But I'm thrilled for the chance to join the Warchant team."
