DB Westbrook is commitment No. 11 for Noles

Florida State is continuing to work central Florida on the recruiting trail, picking up recent back-to-back commitments from the region. The first was Orlando Oak Ridge WR Nyqwan Murray last Monday. The second, defensive back/athlete A.J. Westbrook, gives the Seminoles their 11th commitment of the 2015 class.

Westbrook announced on twitter last Monday that he committed, saying "proud to say I officially committed to Florida State University #fearthespear." Westbrook wasted no time in choosing, as FSU extended an offer just last weekend.

"I'm very excited," Westbrook said. "I never expected that I would get this offer from them."

Westbrook added that he's spoken with defensive coordinator Charles Kelly and liked that FSU plans to try him out at both cornerback and safety in college, in both nickel and dime sets. The speedy defender dded that FSU really likes his size as a six-foot tall defensive back - a trend that follows the Seminoles recruiting preferences for defensive backs in the most recent classes.

The versatility of FSU's defensive backfield was another huge plus as well for him.

"They're labelled as the best secondary in the country," Westbrook said. "So I'd just like to be a part of that and show what I can do on."

Westbrook, a rising senior safety out of Daytona Beach Mainland, chose Florida State over offers from South Florida, Wisconsin, Duke and Cincinnati, among others. He registered 90 tackles and five interceptions for Mainland in 2013.

Westbrook said his first involvement with FSU was as a camper at Jimbo Fisher's summer camp last year, and he plans on coming back to Tallahassee to camp again this July. He's not a highly touted recruit, but he said the lack of attention in the recruiting process doesn't bother him.

"I never really cared about the star things or anything else like that," Westbrook said.
