Pushing the Pace: Briles has Seminoles' offense cranking up the tempo
New offensive coordinator Kendal Briles was not an overwhelming presence during the two Florida State spring practices that were open to the public and media,
He stood on the sidelines during 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills. Signaled in plays. And mostly stayed silent (or at least too quiet to hear) as the Seminoles' offense ran through plays.
But just because he wasn't shouting out instructions doesn't mean his presence wasn't felt in a big way.
Willie Taggart wanted to go fast when he took over as Florida State's head coach last year.
It would appear Briles wants to go even faster.
"I think the things we're doing now, the operation on how we're doing it is a little different than what we did (last year)," Taggart said. "Which allows us to go faster now. And I think our guys are still getting accustomed to going as fast as we're going now. Because it's faster than what we tried to go before.
"But it's helping us, too."
Taggart said the offensive coaches don't have a set goal in mind as to when they want to see the ball snapped on each play. It clearly will be quicker than it was in 2018.
"We just want to go fast," he said. "And we want to be able go faster when we want to as well. It's just lining up and playing, and our guys are still getting accustomed to that."
Florida State's defensive players have certainly noticed the difference.
