Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher told reporters Monday he was "pissed off" at himself and his coaching staff in the wake of the team's 63-20 loss to Louisville.
The Seminoles (2-1, 0-1 ACC) allowed the most points in school history. Furthermore, a number of areas were exposed in the loss at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. A few players said after the game items like a lack of communication were an issue.
Fisher was asked about those communication issues and if such a massive margin of defeat would emphasize the need for improvement.
"It most definitely does. I think it most definitely does. That's why ranting and raving and yelling isn't going to do anything right now," Fisher said. "I'm mad, I'm pissed off. I'm pissed off at myself that we allowed that to happen. I'm pissed off at our coaches but at the same time, it happened. But why did it happen?"
Fisher said the loss will not define the team, but how the Seminoles respond against the University of South Florida (3-0) is a determining factor.
The press conference opened with Fisher saying he was "disappointed" in the team's performance and that "there was no sense in that happening the way it happened."
Louisville, now ranked third in The Associated Press Poll, worked now-No. 13 FSU for 530 yards with sophomore quarterback Lamar Jackson throwing for 216 yards and a touchdown while running for 146 yards and four touchdowns.
FSU's offense struggled to keep up, with redshirt freshman quarterback Deondre Francois getting sacked five times. Francois finished 7 of 18 for 101 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
"As coaches and players, we have to own it. That's who we are and that's what happened," Fisher said in his opening statement. "We say, 'That's not us, that's not us.' Well, that was us."
Since the loss, Fisher and members of his coaching staff have come under pressure from fans.
Fisher was specifically asked about Seminoles defensive coordinator Charles Kelly.
"We have to coach and do what we do and know what we know and believe in ourselves," Fisher said of himself, Kelly and his staff. "I believe in him and our staff in what we're doing and we'll go coach."
