Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher owns the fifth-highest salary among college football coaches, according to the 2016 salary survey released Wednesday by USA Today.

The $5.25 million salary Fisher earns this year ranks below only Michigan's Jim Harbaugh, Alabama's Nick Saban, Ohio State's Urban Meyer and Oklahoma's Bob Stoops. Harbaugh makes slightly more than $9 million, while Saban gets nearly $7 million and Meyer is just over $6 million. Stoops is at $5.55 million.

Fisher, Saban, Meyer and Stoops are the only four active head coaches who have won a national championship.

Fisher also currently owns the nation's largest buyout. According to the survey and accompanying report, it would cost the Seminoles $33 million to make a change at head coach this year -- an amount larger than any other school. The amount would be so substantial because he is in the second season of an eight-year deal worth more than $40 million.

FSU would receive far less if Fisher were to leave on his own. According to his current contract, Fisher would owe the university $5 million if he were to leave before Dec. 31, 2016. That amount would drop to $3 million between then and Dec. 31, 2018. And it would be down to $1 million after that.
