FSU freshman QB Chubba Purdy enters transfer portal

Less than two weeks after seeing his first action of the season, Florida State redshirt freshman quarterback Chubba Purdy has entered the transfer portal.

Purdy, a former four-star recruit who was one of Mike Norvell's first recruiting victories at FSU, led the Seminoles to three touchdown drives in a Homecoming blowout against UMass. He completed all five of his passes in that game for 98 yards and two touchdowns.

Purdy was not seen at practice this week, but Norvell said several players have been dealing with a "bug" that has been going around campus.

Without Purdy, the Seminoles will have only three scholarship quarterbacks -- Jordan Travis, McKenzie Milton and Tate Rodemaker.

Purdy's career at Florida State got off to a rocky start in 2020 when he broke his collarbone in a preseason scrimmage. A couple weeks later, he reportedly needed a second procedure to clean up an infection from the original surgery.

Then after returning from that, he got thrust into action against Louisville, Pitt and N.C. State and endured some understandable struggles. He completed 27 of 53 passes for 219 yards.

Then things got even worse -- after starting against N.C. State, he learned he would need another surgery to repair or replace hardware from the original surgery. That would force him to miss the rest of that season and most of spring practice.
