As it turns out, new Florida State defensive coordinator Harlon Barnett is not coming to Tallahassee on a solo mission. He's bringing one of his top assistants from Michigan State with him.

Mark Snyder, a veteran coach with nearly 30 years of experience, is joining the Seminoles as defensive ends coach, Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman reported Thursday.

Snyder spent the past three seasons at Michigan State after previously serving as defensive coordinator at Texas A&M. He coached linebackers during his first two seasons with the Spartans before moving to defensive ends last season.

Snyder also previously had stints as defensive coordinator at Ohio State and USF, and he was head coach at Marshall, his alma mater, from 2005-09.

Snyder joins a new FSU defensive staff that includes defensive line coach Odell Haggins, Barnett and linebackers coach Raymond Woodie. Recently hired special-teams coach Alonzo Hampton also is expected to help on the defensive side of the ball.

Although most of his experience is outside of the Southeast, Snyder did spend two seasons early in his career at UCF, and he was USF's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in 2010-11.
