Florida State's quest to win its first ever College World Series just got tougher.
Junior ace Tyler Holton, who is a preseason All-American and was expected to help lead the Seminoles on the mound and at the plate, will miss the remainder of the 2018 season after undergoing "Tommy John surgery" on Thursday, a source confirmed to Warchant on Wednesday.
Holton sustained an elbow injury in his first start of the season Friday and left the game in the fifth inning. He is expected to undergo surgery in Pensacola.
Holton has posted a message on Instagram confirming the news:
"After meeting with doctors, my family and I have decided the best thing for me to do is have surgery. Unfortunately that means I’ll be out for the remainder of the season. That being said, we are Florida State and our goal stays the same. This team is special and will do great things this year! God has a plan and a purpose for everything He does! Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers. It’s not the end of the world, just a setback. GO NOLES!!"
