FSU picks up another OL

With Florida State coming up empty at offensive line last February, loading up at this position is a the No. 1 recruiting priority for the 'Noles in 2006. Oklahoma center Chad Roark was the first lineman to pull the trigger for the Garnet and Gold. That wasn't a huge surprise, but commitment No. 5 was a bit of a shocker.

Evan Bellamy, a 6-foot-4, 315-pound guard from Gulliver Prep in Miami, was recently offered a scholarship and made the decision on Monday to commit to the Seminoles.

"I just seemed like the perfect fit for me, and I really liked the campus over there," Bellamy said. "My concern is getting in there and helping this team win the National Championship."

Surprisingly, football is relatively new for the All-Dade County lineman. He actually took up the sport in the ninth grade and he became an immediate starter. Even though he has only played for a few years he has a big upside potential that was recognized by the Seminole coaching staff.

Bellamy probably won't play much his first year but he is anxious to contribute and help the 'Noles get back the dynasty they held for nearly a decade and a half.

"My first year I want to just learn the system, but with the education there and returning stars I feel it's only a matter of time before we start winning title's again," he said. "I was offered by Florida State at the (FSU) camp."

Bellamy should be good to go academically. He carries a 3.0 GPA in the classroom and is on track to qualify.

Florida State is far from done recruiting offensive linemen. The 'Noles are still very much involved for Jim Barrie, Clifton Geathers, Daron Rose, Alex Stadler, Cruz Barrett, Kevin Young and Andre Smith. All of these recruits have FSU scholarship offers.
