Jordan Travis does not offer many public displays of emotion.
That's not his thing. Whether he's just scored on an 88-yard run or been sacked and is in pain, he tries to stay on the most even of keels.
He is not easy to read or dissect. On or off the field.
But you could tell on Wednesday, as the redshirt sophomore quarterback was asked about missing Florida State's last game against N.C. State, there was a real tinge of excitement about being back this week for the Virginia game on Saturday night (8 p.m., ACC Network).
"It was tough not being out there with the boys, of course," Travis said. "But I'm back, and I'm happy and I'm thankful."
As is head coach Mike Norvell and everyone on the Seminoles' roster.
If Travis was unavailable, that would leave freshman Tate Rodemaker as the only healthy scholarship player at the position. And also, there is the not-so-small matter of just how dynamic Travis has proven to be when he's healthy enough to play.
The sophomore QB leads the Seminoles in rushing with 469 yards and six touchdowns. If you take away the sack yardage, Travis has rushed for approximately 545 yards on 74 attempts -- an average of 7.4 yards per rush.
He's also thrown for 864 yards and four more scores in his limited snaps this season.
"He's kind of almost an eraser," Norvell said. "When something bad has happened, to be able to extend the play, keep his eyes downfield, to be able to hurt people with his legs and his arm throughout the course of a game. What he allows us to do offensively, we're able to be quite multiple with the run and the passing game."
