FSU softball rally falls short at Okla. State

Via FSU sports information:

The Florida State softball team's (21-5) seventh-inning rally came up just short in a 3-2 loss to No. 3 Oklahoma State (20-2) in the series finale in Stillwater, Okla.

The Seminoles wasted no time to put pressure on the Cowgirls as Kaley Mudge and Devyn Flaherty drew back-to-back walks to start the game. Mudge was caught stealing second, but Kalei Harding lined one into right center field for her eighth double of the year to put runners on second and third. Harding extended her hitting streak to six games and has now recorded a hit in 12 out of the last 13 games.

Michaela Edenfield stepped in and hit a ground ball to third base, but Flaherty beat the throw home to give the Seminoles the 1-0 lead.

Ali DuBois got the start for the Seminoles in the circle and was fantastic through three innings, allowing just two hits and kept the Cowgirls scoreless.

Sandercock entered the game in fourth inning and retired six out of the first seven batters she faced.

FSU's offense threatened in the third, fourth and fifth innings with runners in scoring position in each inning, but the Seminoles were unable to get a hit to increase the lead.

The Seminoles took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth, but the Cowgirls led the inning off with back-to-back singles to put runners in scoring position. The Cowgirls took the lead on a double and tacked on one more run to take a two-run lead into the seventh.

The Seminoles still had life though as Jahni Kerr and Hallie Wacaser each singled, and Josie Muffley laid down a bunt to put runners on second and third with one out. Mudge hit a single to shallow right field allowing one run to score, but the Noles could not bring the tying run across.
