Florida State's annual spring game is finally in the books, and while the defense certainly left a lasting impression, so did the Seminoles' coaches on the recruiting front. FSU landed a pair of big-time 2019 commits on Saturday, and the 'Noles also came close to sealing the deal with 2018 DB Asante Samuel.
They also made big moves with several other key targets, and we break it all down here in our Spring Game Recruiting Insider Report.
Samuel loves FSU, and his mother is on board, too
Rivals100 DB Asante Samuel has said in the past that one of the major holdups for him possibly pulling the trigger for Florida State was that his mother needed to see the school in person. Samuel's mother got that chance on Saturday as she attended the FSU spring game with her high-profile recruit son, and they both came away very impressed.
"She loved it up here," Asante Samuel said. "She said it's a family here and she liked it even more than she thought she would. It helped the 'Noles a lot. I didn't commit. Not yet. I just want to make sure this is the right place for me."
Throughout the recruiting process, Samuel has said that Florida State stands out among the competition. On Saturday, he explained why.
"Yes, they are the clear-cut favorite," he said. "I have loved them since I was a young kid and loved everything they do here with their players and defensive backs."
On Sunday, Samuel announced on Twitter that his commitment date will be this Thursday, April 13.
