Complete analysis of Florida State's 2013 football scheduleClick to view this Link.
Florida State's schedule is set for 2013, and it starts on a big stage as the Seminoles head to Pittsburgh to open ACC play on Labor Day. lays out the matchups on the docket for FSU this fall.
Pittsburgh Panthers
Date: Monday, September 2 (Labor Day)
Location: Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, Pa.
2012 Finish: 6-7, 3-4 Big East (T-5th)
Previous Meeting: 1983; Pitt won 17-16.
Skinny: Florida State will be the ACC's welcoming committee for Pitt, one of two new ACC members for 2013. This is FSU's first Labor Day game since a 38-34 loss to Miami in 2009 and it's first Labor Day road game since a 24-18 loss at Clemson in 2007. FSU and Pitt haven't met since 1983. FSU will also have the benefit of a bye week following the season opener.
September 7: Open Date
Nevada Wolfpack
Date: Saturday, September 14.
Location: Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, Fla.
2012 Finish: 7-6, 4-4 Mountain West (5th).
Previous Meeting: First-ever meeting.
Skinny: The roller coaster that was keeping this game on the 2013 schedule finally settled down this fall. Nevada attempted to get out of the game at the request of the coaching staff, which pointed to a tough OOC slate for 2013 (UCLA, FSU, Oregon). FSU would have allowed it, but they required Nevada to find a suitable FBS replacement. The game was originally scheduled for 2008 but was postponed to 2013. It was then moved up a week to facilitate the FSU-Pitt Labor Day matchup.
Bethune-Cookman Wildcats
Date: Saturday, September 21.
Location: Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, Fla.
2012 Finish: 9-3, 8-0 MEAC (1st).
Previous Meeting:First-ever meeting.
Skinny: FSU's date with FCS opponent Wofford was originally slated for the season opener, but moving Pittsburgh to Labor Day booted the game off the schedule. In steps FCS Bethune Cookman as a replacement, and the game is moved to Sept. 21. This marks FSU's fifth game against FCS opponents dating back to the 2010 season.
Boston College Eagles
Date: Saturday, September 28.
Location: Alumni Stadium, Chestnut Hill, Mass.
2012 Finish: 2-10, 1-7 ACC (6th in Atlantic Division).
Previous Meeting: 2012; FSU won 51-7.
Skinny: Florida State has handled Boston College with little resistance the past two seasons, outscoring the Eagles 89-14 including a decisive 38-7 win on Thursday night in Chestnut Hill in 2011. Boston College will be breaking in new head coach Steve Addazio, who replaced Frank Spaziani. Spaziani was 22-29 in four seasons as BC's head coach.
Maryland Terrapins
Date: Saturday, October 5.
Location: Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, Fla.
2012 Finish: 4-8, 2-6 ACC (5th in Atlantic Division).
Previous Meeting: 2012; FSU won 41-14.
Skinny: With an out of conference game now the week before Florida, Maryland has moved out of its informally traditional pre-UF spot on Florida State's schedule (The Terps have preceded Florida five of the past six seasons). FSU has handled Maryland in the past three meetings - including two in College Park - This is also expected to be the final FSU-Maryland game in the foreseeable future as the Terps move to the Big 10.
October 12: Open Date
Clemson Tigers
Date: Saturday, October 19.
Location: Memorial Stadium, Clemson, S.C.
2012 Finish: 11-2, 7-1 ACC (T-1st in Atlantic Division).
Previous Meeting: 2012; FSU won 49-37.
Skinny: Jockeying for position at the top of what amounts to a two-team Atlantic Division race in 2013, this will be Florida State's most important game and will serve as the league's showcase game. FSU picked up a big break on the schedule, getting its second bye week prior to the Clemson game. The Seminoles have lost at Clemson five straight times dating back to 2003, losing the last three times by six points or less. This game has ultimately decided the Atlantic Division championship the past two seasons and we should expect no different this time around.
N.C. State Wolfpack
Date: Saturday, October 26.
Location: Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, Fla.
2012 Finish: 7-6, 4-4 ACC (3rd in Atlantic Division).
Previous Meeting: 2012; N.C. State won 17-16.
Skinny: It may take a few seasons for Seminole Nation to wipe the memory of last year's N.C. State game away. Florida State led 16-0 at halftime before falling 17-16, completing one of the biggest blown halftime leads in school history. The Wolfpack will bring a new head coach (Dave Doeren) and a new quarterback into Doak in 2013. FSU is 6-6 in the past 12 meetings vs. NCSU.
Miami Hurricanes
Date: Saturday, November 2.
Location: Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, Fla.
2012 Finish: 7-5, 5-3 ACC (T-1st in Coastal Division).
Previous Meeting: 2012; FSU won 33-10.
Skinny: The annual rivalry has a little more flavor this season as former offensive coordinator James Coley makes his return to Tallahassee. Coley left FSU in January - amid the final stretch of the recruiting season - to pick up playcalling duties for the 'Canes. Jimbo Fisher is undefeated against Miami (3-0) as FSU's head coach.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Date: Saturday, November 9.
Location: BB&T Field, Winston-Salem, N.C.
2012 Finish: 5-7, 3-5 ACC (4th in Atlantic Division).
Previous Meeting: 2012; FSU won 52-0.
Skinny: Florida State avenged it's baffling 2011 loss at Wake Forest to the tune of a 52-0 beatdown in Tallahassee last fall. The Seminoles are just 1-2 in their past three trips to Winston Salem, but the talent gap between the programs continues to widen since the stretch where Wake Forest topped the Seminoles three straight times (2006-08).
Syracuse Orange
Date: Saturday, November 16.
Location: Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, Fla.
2012 Finish: 8-5, 5-2 Big East (T-1st).
Previous Meeting: 2005; FSU won 38-14.
Skinny: The second part of Florida State's ACC Welcoming Tour comes when it hosts new league member Syracuse. The two teams played a home-and-home series in 2004 and 2005 with FSU winning both games. Scott Shafer has been hired as the Orange's new head coach, replacing Doug Marrone, who was hired as the Buffalo Bills' head coach.
Idaho Vandals
Date: Saturday, November 23.
Location: Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, Fla.
2012 Finish: 1-11, 1-5 WAC (6th).
Previous Meeting: First meeting.
Skinny: The first-ever meeting between Idaho and Florida State was a product of the ACC reverting back from a nine-game conference plan to the traditional eight-game format once Notre Dame joined as a partial member. With the move back, FSU had to find another out of conference game. It will mark the first time FSU has played a non-conference opponent the week prior to UF since 2006. That year, FSU topped Western Michigan 28-20.
Florida Gators
Date: November 30.
Location: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville, Fla.
2012 Finish: 11-2, 7-1 SEC (T-1st in East Division).
Previous Meeting: 2012; Florida won 37-26.
Skinny: The archrivals have traded dominating performances on the other's home field - Florida overpowered FSU to win 37-26 in Tallahassee last season while Florida State beat Florida 24-7 in The Swamp in 2011. After an 11-win campaign, the Gators should be well inside the preseason top 10 in 2013. Prior to 2011, FSU had lost three straight times in Gainesville.
