VALDOSTA, GA -- The long, hard-fought battle between SEC and ACC powerhouse programs for five-star cornerback Greg Reid came to an end at a steakhouse in Valdosta, Georgia. When the dust settled, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's high school player of the year for in the state of Georgia selected Florida State.
So what made the difference for the Seminoles?
"I feel like Florida State was close to my family," Reid said. "I really do think family matters. I can go home anytime I want to."
In addition to FSU being close to his family, Reid said he felt at home when he spoke to other Seminole players and recruits.
"I talked to EJ (Manuel), I talked to Jacobbi (McDaniel) and I want to play with them," he said. "I really want to win man. I know a lot of guys want to win. We came real close at the Under Armor All-American game."
Reid made an early commitment to Florida but decommitted in early January and opened up his recruitment. After an MVP performance at the Under Armour all-star game, his stock went through roof and so did the interest from colleges around the country. He had a great visit to FSU the weekend of January 9th and the Seminoles remained among his frontrunners ever since.
The other top two teams in contention for the blue chip defensive back were Georgia and Alabama.
The 5-foot-9, 175-pound athlete will line up at cornerback and is expected return kicks at Florida State.
Reid rushed for 1,242 yards and scored 16 touchdowns as a senior. He also helped Lowndes High School to a 12-1 record this past season.
Rivals.com ranks Reid the No. 4 cornerback in the country. He becomes FSU's 19th commitment for the class of 2009.
