Impact Analysis: Green gives FSU another potential game-breaker

How will Green fit in at FSU?

College wide receivers come in all shapes and sizes, but there is no substitute for size and speed -- and Green has both.

Green blew the FSU coaching staff away during with his performance at the Jimbo Fisher June camp. Green showed off his strength, creating separation from defensive backs at the line of scrimmage, his smooth route-running and his speed.

"I think he's a great fit for FSU because he can really stretch the field with his speed," Rivals analyst Rob Cassidy said. "That jumps out at you because of his size and athleticism."

Florida State has a lot of quality talent at wide receiver, but the Seminoles are lacking in depth, which is why that position is a huge position of need in this class.

The expected leader of the group this season is junior Nyqwan Murray, who enjoyed a breakthrough sophomore campaign, capped off by a two touchdown performance against Michigan in the Orange Bowl. Although he isn't one of FSU's bigger wideouts, Murray has elite speed and ball skills, which make him a threat on the outside or in the slot.

Florida State also returns two physical specimens in junior Auden Tate and sophomore Keith Gavin -- Tate is listed at 6-5, 225, and Gavin is 6-3, 225. Both should be major targets for FSU in the red zone, but Fisher believes they also have the potential to be complete wide receivers.

The only Seminole receiver who has contributed in a game is junior Da'Vante Phillips, but the Miami native has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. If he's healthy, FSU's coaches believe Phillips has the physical tools to become a factor; he also has some of the best hands on the team.

Then there is the biggest "X factor" for the receiving corps, redshirt sophomore George Campbell. Because of injuries, Campbell has yet to back up his five-star ranking out of high school, but there's no denying his talent. Despite being 6-4 and 207 pounds, Campbell is one of the fastest players on the FSU roster. He is fully healthy this summer, and we hear he has gotten stronger while rehabbing for much of the past year.
