Sometimes, it takes a spark to get things cranked up for a recruiting class, and Florida State got just that when Rivals100 defensive back Houston Griffith committed the Seminoles over the weekend.

Griffith was open about how much he loved Florida State throughout the recruiting process, and on Sunday afternoon he ended his recruitment and joined fellow Chicago native OL Verdis Brown, who committed to FSU earlier this year.

"It came down to the people at the end of the day and [being] comfortable with the defensive system," Griffith said. "Once I was in that atmosphere, I knew that was the place for me and I pulled the trigger. I knew it was a possibility heading into the weekend."

The nation's No. 6-ranked safety said he found the perfect time to share the news with FSU coach Jimbo Fisher and his assistant coaches.

"At first when I was in the office, FSU had Coach [Tim] Brewster, Coach [Odell] Haggins, Coach [Charles] Kelly in the office with my family," he recalled. "Coach Fisher then told me, 'Man, I really wish I could have you as a part of this team.' And I said, 'Coach, I have something to tell you. I'm ready to be a Seminole.' And all the coaches got really excited. It was a great moment."

The commitment from Griffith couldn't have come at a better time for Florida State, which had just fallen in the final seconds to rival Miami. Griffith said he plans to be one of the top recruiters for FSU, and he already has some key targets in mind, including one who currently is committed to another school.

"I love the class we already have," Griffith said. "I've been talking with Amari Gainer about the guys we need to go after and got some guys from Coach Brewster that we should go after. I'm going after Josh Moore, Jaylen Waddle and Tre (Bobby) Brown are my main focus. Josh Moore talks about FSU a good amount to me, so I'm going to work on him."

The talented corner said he hears that the weekend visit went really well for DE Bobby Brown, so he's going to work hard on him.

He also can't wait to get to Tallahassee with old friend and fellow FSU commit Verdis Brown.

"It feels great. I've known him since the eighth grade in the summer," Griffith said. "Knowing we can do it together, it's special to play with my brother. We are both enrolling early and both can get in there in knowing the system and the summer classes."
