The records certainly suggest West Virginia is better than Florida State, but this is one bowl in which statistics might not matter. This marks the last game of Bobby Bowden's legendary career. He is coaching in his home state in front of a sellout crowd. FSU should enter this game intent on delivering an inspired effort.
Bobby Bowden's final game as coach at Florida State will come in a Gator Bowl sure to draw lots of attention. The Seminoles take on West Virginia as Bowden faces the program he once coached. In the process, Bowden got to stick it to his ACC rivals one last time by disrupting the traditional bowl selection process.
With Florida State needing to win the Gator Bowl to avoid its first losing season since 1976, Bobby Bowden won't be going out on top as he always hoped. But his players want to salvage a disappointing season by sending Bowden out a winner one last time.
As Florida State prepared for West Virginia over the past month, Warchant.com had coverage of their practices in our Insider Report.
Though he had a promising freshman season - averaging 4.8 yards a carry - talented tailback Chris Thompson is determined to make a bigger impact for FSU. Motivated by missed opportunities and the death of a loved one, the Madison County product vows to be more productive in 2010. 'I left some plays out on the field. But after this year, I promise to not leave any plays out on the field again.'
In this exclusive interview with Warchant.com, Florida State offensive line coach Rick Trickett spoke about why John Prior is no longer with the team, his feelings on whether Rodney Hudson will return for his senior season, the latest on Antwane Greenlee's recovery, how many offensive linemen he would like to sign this year and next, and more.
A parade of former Florida State players made their way to Jacksonville University for Tuesday's Gator Bowl practice; many just hoping to share a moment with retiring Seminoles' coach Bobby Bowden. Read some comments of former players regarding coach Bowden inside.
Leading up to the game, Warchant.com has had numerous video features about the Gator Bowl and Bobby Bowden's final game.
Bill Stewart is living a dream. The native of New Martinsville, W.Va., oozes enthusiasm for his job and an enduring love for all things West Virginia. He talked about that, going against Bobby Bowden in his final game as FSU coach and other topics with Tom Dienhart.
In addition to Bobby Bowden hanging it up following the Gator Bowl, longtime defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews will also be coaching in his final game. For Andrews, the decision to retire after 26 years at Florida State simply came down to wanting to spend more time with his family. It's a decision he says he won't regret.
