Florida State was hoping to sign a couple linebackers with the 2003 class and it looks like at least one is in the bag. During his school banquet Sunday evening Anthony Kelly, a three-star recruit, announced his intentions to sign with Florida State.
The 6-foot-3 and 225 pound linebacker from Daytona Beach (Fla.) Seabreeze has been one of the fasting rising prospects in the state of Florida. After racking up over 150 tackles and six sacks in his senior season the big boys began to pay attention. In addition to Florida State, Ron Zook and the Florida Gators offered a scholarship late in the process. He also showed interest in South Florida and UCF. But in the end his heart was with the Seminoles.
The first team all-state linebacker will need to improve his grades and/or test score to become fully qualified.
Kelly's half brother (Xavier Lee) will be one of the most highly sought after quarterback prospects in the country for the class of 2004.
Florida State now sits at 14 verbal commitments.
