Ever since Mario Edwards Jr. announced that he would officially visit other schools, Florida State fans have been holding their breath. Those fans can finally take a deep breath and exhale.
The nation's No. 1 rated defensive end prospect (No. 3 overall) told Warchant.com on Monday afternoon that he has officially ended the recruiting process and made a final decision. That decision is the same one he made when he committed to FSU way back in March of 2011.
"After getting home (from LSU) and talking it over with my family I (decided) am sticking with Florida State, and that's where I'm headed," said Edwards. "That is my final decision."
The five-star defender took official visits to both Oklahoma and Texas back in December and then checked out LSU this past weekend. But it was his official visit to FSU two weeks ago that probably sealed the deal for the Seminoles.
"At FSU, he's developed relationships with not only the lineman, but the receivers, linebackers, and the offensive lineman," Mario Edwards Sr. told Warchant.com following the visit.
In addition to his return visit to FSU earlier this month, the younger Edwards noted that he wanted to be part of another highly rated recruiting class at Florida State.
"The reason I picked FSU is the feeling I have while I'm there and because they have back-to-back (recruiting) classes that are top of the nation and I want to be a part of that," said Edwards.
Edwards added that over the next nine nine days until national signing day that he plans to make several calls to undecided prospects to help the 'Noles' recruiting efforts.
During his senior season, the high school All-American racked up 72 tackles, 32 tackles for losses and 11 sacks. Edwards will be a legacy at Florida State since his father played for Bobby Bowden in the late 1990's and that included the national title team in 1999. He set an ACC record with four interceptions in a single game in 1998 versus Wake Forest.
