The Florida State baseball team was at home Wednesday night, while the softball team was on the road. And both squads came away with wins against non-conference competition.
No. 2 FSU softball team wins at Alabama
The No.2-ranked Florida State softball team (25-1) took down No. 4 Alabama (22-3), 6-5, at Rhoads Stadium on Wednesday night.
Alabama took an early lead after scoring three runs in the first inning. A pair of singles and a home run by Kaylee Tow put the Crimson Tide in front.
The 'Noles responded as they would go on to get the next two batters out in the first inning. Kathryn Sandercock relieved Danielle Watson in the second inning and proceeded to get the next 10 Alabama batters out on her way to her 12th win of the season.

Florida State made a dent in the Bama lead in the fourth inning, scoring its first run of the game. Mack Leonard reached base on a fielder's choice and then advanced to second after a wild pitch. Two pitches later Kalei Harding singled up the middle allowing Leonard to reach home.
Alabama took back a three-run lead in the bottom of the fifth after a double and a pair of singles scored Savannah Woodard.
The 'Noles were down but not out. The Garnet and Gold proceeded to score three runs in the top of the sixth inning, tying the game at four. Sydney Sherrill led off the inning with her second walk of the game and then reached second due to an Alabama fielding error. With runners on first and second, Michaela Edenfield hit her ninth home run of the season off the foul pole in left field tying the game at four.
Florida State would tack on two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to take their first lead of the game. Kaley Mudge got the 'Noles started with a one-out single up the middle. Sherrill backed her up with a single of her own. Alabama’s third error of the night gave FSU the lead as the third baseman bobbled the ball allowing Mudge to score from third.
On the next pitch, Kalei Harding grounded out to third base, but not before Sherrill gave the 'Noles a 6-4 lead.
Alabama would get one run back in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough as FSU defeated Alabama for the sixth consecutive time.
Florida State is back home this weekend to play a three-game series against Boston College.
No. 8 FSU Baseball bombs Bethune-Cookman, 17-9
The No. 8 Florida State baseball team (11-5) opened a nine-game homestand Wednesday night with a 17-9 win over Bethune-Cookman (5-11) at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles hit three home runs and had 16 total hits, while Carson Montgomery (2-0) and four relievers combined to allow just five hits.
Brock Mathis, James Tibbs and Alex Toral hit home runs, FSU’s second three-home run game of the season. The Seminole offense set or tied season-highs in runs, hits, walks, RBI, and hit-by-pitches.
Montgomery won his second consecutive start, allowing just two earned runs and two hits over 5.0 innings. The Florida State defense committed four errors, and three unearned runs scored with Montgomery on the mound.
In addition to his three-run home run in a seven-run seventh, Toral added a two-run double and finished with five RBI. Logan Lacey and Brett Roberts both scored three runs, and Reese Albert was on base in all four plates appearances (two hits, two walks).
In relief of Montgomery, Wyatt Crowell, Jackson Baumeister and Conner Whittaker combined for three hitless innings with six strikeouts. After FSU took a 17-5 lead with seven runs in the seventh inning, the Wildcats scored four runs in the ninth inning on a three-run home run from Lake Fisher and a sacrifice fly.
Marcos Gamboa (0-1) allowed four runs on four hits over 2.1 innings for Bethune-Cookman.
Florida State continues its nine-game homestand this weekend with a three-game series against N.C. State (10-6). Game one Friday night is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
