LOUISVILLE -- Sophomore quarterback Lamar Jackson more than lived up to the hype, and the No. 10 Louisville Cardinals dominated No. 2 Florida State in every phase of the game Saturday, rolling to a 63-20 victory at Papa John’s Stadium.
Jackson, a dual-threat quarterback from Boynton Beach, Fla., who came into the game leading the ACC in rushing and passing, was masterful against a Florida State defense that looked confused from the start. In the first half alone, Jackson passed for 180 yards and rushed for 94 – he accounted for four touchdowns by himself (three rushing and one passing).
The Cardinals (3-0, 2-0 ACC) handed FSU its worst loss since a 47-0 defeat to rival Miami in 1976, Bobby Bowden's first season.
The Seminoles (2-1, 0-1) started slow for the second time in three games and trailed Louisville by double-digits in the first quarter, but a Ricky Aguayo field goal and a 20-yard touchdown pass from Deondre Francois to Auden Tate cut the lead to 14-10 early in the second quarter.
From there, Jackson and the Cardinals stepped on the gas. They scored three consecutive touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 35-10 halftime lead.
Francois and the Seminoles’ offense could never get on track after that; the redshirt freshman quarterback completed 7 of 18 passes for 101 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Star running back Dalvin Cook ran for 54 yards on 16 carries.
FSU plays next on Saturday at USF.
