Florida State added a Rivals100 offensive lineman to its 2016 recruiting class on Wednesday afternoon when Baveon Johnson from Lake Gibson, Fla., decided it was time to become a Seminole.
He picked FSU over Florida, Kentucky, Miami and Mississippi State.
He recently won offensive lineman MVP honors at both the Miami Nike Camp and Miami Rivals Camp.
"I just love to compete. I want to always go against the best, and I knew these guys were the best. That motivates and drives me to work even harder," Johnson said after the Miami Rivals Camp. "I study each guy for every rep they do so I pick up on what their strengths or weaknesses are. Competition is great. I love it."
Playing at FSU was his dream since childhood. That dream became a reality once he got his offer.
Johnson will likely be a center once he gets to FSU. It's a position he's very fond of after seeing what offensive line coach Rick Trickett has done with former players like Bryan Stork, who won a Super Bowl in his first year with the New England Patriots, and the Oakland Raiders' Rodney Hudson, who signed the largest contract for a center. Trickett even gave Johnson some pointers prior to his camp participation.
"Coach is really one-of-a-kind and different, but a good different," Johnson told Warchant.com after the Miami Nike Camp. "He helped me with my stance and my kick-slide on my blocking. That helped a lot today. I wanted to stay aggressive and just take over the blocks at the line and felt I did that."
The 6-foot-4, 325-pound center prospect becomes commitment No. 12 in the 2016 class. He is the No. 83-ranked player in the country, No. 3 offensive guard and No. 16 in the state. This is also the second straight year 'the Noles landed a Rivals100 prospect from Polk County. Five-star 2015 defensive back Derwin James is already enrolled at FSU.
