Florida State landed commitment No. 17 and its third quarterback for the 2015 class when IMG Academy's (Bradenton, Fla.) Deondre Francois announced at Thursday press conference he is headed to Florida State. The dual-thread quarterback chose the Noles over Auburn and Oregon.
"I felt at home at FSU," Francois said. "I felt the most comfortable with FSU's staff."
Francois's commitment came just minutes after fellow 2015 QB prospect Kai Locksley committed to the Noles, making Francois the third QB in the upcoming class for FSU. Francois said that Locksley's commitment didn't affect his decision at all.
"Coach Fisher's ability to put QBs in the NFL was very important," Francois said.
Francois was extended a scholarship offer earlier this spring, right after National Signing Day. His most recent visit to FSU was during the Jimbo Fisher Camp in July. The Rivals250 member got a lot of personal coaching from the Seminoles' head coach. He originally planned to stay in Tallahassee for one day, but ended up staying several days to spend additional time with Fisher and the players.
"They stand high with me," said Francois of FSU after the camp. "I like Jimbo and I like the atmosphere around here.
His visit to Auburn last week was his final visit before making his decision. What are some of the factors he considered when he broke down his finalists?
"There are a lot of deciding factors," he told AuburnSports.com. "There isn't just one big one. It has a lot to do with the coaches, the quarterback situation. Auburn and Florida State are two nationalized teams. They just got out of the BCS game. I can't go wrong with either one. Hopefully, I make the right decision."
Francois (6-0, 191) originally played at Olympia in Orlando, Fla. before transferring to IMG Academy this spring. His head coach is former FSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Chris Weinke.
Francois is the No. 8 ranked dual-threat quarterback and No. 170 ranked prospect in the country. He is also rated No. 26 in the state of Florida. He joins Jacksonville First Coast quarterback De'Andre Johnson as the third quarterback in the 2015 class. He committed just minutes after fellow QB Kai Locksley committed to FSU today as well.
