Florida State has hired Ryan Bartow as the program’s director of high school relations, head coach Mike Norvell announced this week.

“I’m extremely excited about the addition of Ryan Bartow to the Seminole Family,” Norvell said. “Ryan brings extensive knowledge and incredible relationships throughout the state of Florida as well as the southeast region to Tallahassee. He will be a great ambassador of our program and will be a wonderful asset for coaches and prospects connecting to our Florida State football program.”

Bartow brings experience as director of high school relations at both Oregon and Syracuse. Last season at Syracuse, he managed all recruiting interactions between the staff, recruits and their families, as well as evaluated prospects to set the Orange’s recruiting board. Bartow was the primary recruiter for seven of Syracuse’s top signees, helping Syracuse lock up its second-best recruiting class in the past decade. In 2018 at Oregon, Bartow was responsible for evaluations, communications, recruiting boards, coordinating travel for in-home visits and handling on-campus visits from recruits and families.

"I've kept a close eye on and admired coach Norvell since his days at Arizona State and then at Memphis,” Bartow said. “I told my true pals that last cycle FSU made the best hire of the offseason. I'm humbled and honored to have the opportunity to work for a great man. I lived in the Carolinas for eight years and in south Florida for five. Of my thousands of friends, 90% all have the same job: high school football coach. The majority of them reside in the Southeast. High school football coaches and what they do for America's youth is as valued of a position as there is. I love my high school coaches and our authentic relationships. FSU has a historic brand and ideal talent geography. It's time to get this roster back to what the awesome Seminoles fan base expects and deserves. College football is at its best when Florida State has its place at the national table."

In between stints at Oregon and Syracuse, Bartow was a west coast scout for coaching technology company XOS. In that role, he would attend high school games and practices in order to evaluate student-athletes for the XOS database as well as develop reports for subscribers and maintain relationships with existing clients while also increasing new relationships with prospective clients.

Prior to joining the Oregon staff, Bartow covered recruiting for 12 years. He has worked for both Rivals.com and 247 Sports.

Bartow earned his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2003. He replaces Carlos Locklyn, who left to become running backs coach at Western Kentucky.
