FSU offensive tackle Menelik Watson will skip his senior season at FSU and declare for the NFL draft, Warchant.com has learned.
A formal announcement is expected on Monday or Tuesday.
Watson started 12 games for Florida State on the way to honorable mention All-ACC honors. He was one of the Seminoles' most consistent lineman despite playing in just eight career football games at Saddleback Junior College (Calif.) before his arrival on campus.
With just 20 career games played at the junior college and major Division I-A level, the 6-foot-6, 320-pound Watson will be considered a developmental prospect in the NFL. Watson is rated as the No. 39 offensive tackle in the draft class of 2014, which doesn't consider the current senior crop of offensive tackles.
Following FSU's win in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, Watson said that he was considering a jump but wanted to take some time to make his decision.
Watson joins Bjoern Werner and Xavier Rhodes as FSU juniors who will enter the professional ranks. Safety Lamarcus Joyner will stay at FSU for his senior season while sources tell Warchant.com that linebacker Christian Jones is leaning towards returning to FSU for his senior campaign.
