Parker arrested on drug and gun charges

Rising junior wide receiver Preston Parker was arrested in Palm Beach Gardens early Tuesday morning on gun and drug charges. The arresting officer reportedly found a loaded .45-caliber handgun and a bag containing 4.8 grams of marijuana under the dash of Parker's red Dodge Charger.
Parker was jailed and later released on a $5,000 bond.

Parker, who lives in Delray Beach, recently returned home after completing final exams at Florida State.
Since the gun charge is a felony, Parker is not currently eligible to compete in athletic competition while representing Florida State, but can still practice with the team.
Last season, Parker was the team's leading receiver and racked up 1,513 all-purpose yards.
Statement from FSU regarding Parker's arrest:
Florida State University officials were informed today that wide receiver Preston Parker was arrested early Tuesday in Palm Beach County.
"We are aware of Preston's arrest and are gathering the facts of the situation," Florida State Director of Athletics Randy Spetman said. "We have an Athletics Code of Conduct/Discipline Policy in place for all student-athletes and once we've thoroughly reviewed the details of the incident, we will handle the situation according to that policy."
The Delray Beach, Fla., native completed his sophomore season in 2007.
There will be no further comments from Florida State until the investigation has been completed.
