Primer on FSU coaches' contracts, salaries, buyout obligations
Given this week's news that the University of Florida has fired head coach Jim McElwain, we’re officially entering the time of year when coaching salaries, contracts and buyouts become a hot topic for fans and media.
With that in mind, and given FSU’s current 2-5 record, here’s a look at where the Seminoles stand with their football coaching staff members' salaries and contracts.
Jimbo Fisher’s contract was renegotiated at the end of last season, while his nine assistant coaches’ contracts were last revised in mid-2016. All of the assistants other than defensive coordinator Charles Kelly have one more year on their contracts after this season; FSU is obligated to pay them through the 2018 season.
Kelly is under contract through the 2020 season because he is in the second season of a five-year deal.
Here is a look at each coach’s salary, years remaining and FSU’s obligation should the Seminoles look to terminate any of their deals early.
