QB commit Sims focuses on enrolling early, helping FSU land other recruits

After failing to sign a quarterback in either of the past two recruiting classes, it's understandable that Florida State fans have been a little uneasy about the future of the quarterback position.

If those concerns weren't eased based on the commitment last month of 2020 QB Jeffrey Sims, they certainly should be based on Sims' actions since making his announcement. Not only is Sims locked in to signing with the 'Noles, refusing to even visit other schools, but he also is planning to be an early enrollee.

"It was great being back home," Sims said after making a midweek visit to FSU. "I'm just getting ready to get here. I can't wait. I'll be here in January as I graduate early."

Although Rivals lists him as a three-star prospect, Sims' recent performances in camp and 7-on-7 settings likely have him set up well for a ratings bump. He has won numerous camp MVP awards and certainly shined for his Pro Impact team on the 7-on-7 circuit.

"I've been focusing so hard on my game," Sims said. "My accuracy is way better now. I'm also taller now at 6-foot-4, so that helps. My arm strength has also gotten a lot better. For arm strength, I just needed to work out harder."

The Sandalwood High standout said he also has tweaked his mechanics and footwork to refine his passing game.

Sims has been a regular visitor to FSU since making his commitment, but his trip to Tallahassee on Wednesday might have been his favorite one yet. He not only got to watch the Seminoles practice, but he got to hang out with FSU legend Charlie Ward.
