#22 Florida State vs. Virginia
1st Quarter Breakdown:The officials were the focal point of the first quarter as several questionable calls and non-calls went against the Seminoles. The most egregious was an obvious horse collar out of bounds on receiver Rashad Greene following a 53-yard run. FSU would instead turn the ball over, which led to a long UVA drive before the quarter ended.
Key Plays: EJ Manuel fumbled the football at the UVA 23 after a Rashad Greene reverse gave FSU a prime scoring opportunity.
2nd Quarter Breakdown:
Virgina took a 7-0 lead, but Manuel was able to respond with an impressive 11 play scoring drive.
The FSU defense was able to settle down and finally get some pressure on Rocco sacking him twice in the second quarter.
Jermaine Thomas provided a big spark with 50 yards on six carries.
Key Plays:
Michael Rocco connected with running back Perry Jones for a 7-yard touchdown pass.
On 3rd and 14 EJ Manuel escaped pressure to find Bert Reed for a gain of 17 yards to keep the scoring drive alive.
Manuel connected to Ja'Baris Little for a 1-yard TD.
3rd Quarter Breakdown:As rain began to fall, neither team could get its offense going. Florida State scored a lone field goal as it couldn't punch in a touchdown from the UVA 1. The two teams were a combined 2-of-7 on third down during the quarter.
Key Plays: Manuel connected with senior Bert Reed on a 68-yard pass that got the Seminoles down to the UVA 1. But the short yardage woes continued for Florida State has it could not punch a touchdown in, settling instead for a 21-yard field goal from Dustin Hopkins.
