Season Wrap
Say what you want about the 2014 campaign, but it was without a doubt one of the most exciting seasons in Florida State history. The Seminoles completed a perfect 12-0 regular season and followed it up with a win over Georgia Tech to capture the program’s 15th ACC championship. The ‘Noles’ remarkable run of 29 straight wins, dating back to the end of the 2012 season, came to an end in a turnover-plagued loss to Oregon in the College Football Playoff in California.
However, what stood out most about 2014 wasn’t the record, but how often FSU had to rally from behind to pull out a victory. In five of the 13 wins, FSU trailed at halftime and twice by double-digits. The most notable comebacks came at Louisville, when FSU trailed by 17 in the second half, and after falling behind 23-7 at Miami.
In addition to all the excitement on the field, there was plenty of drama off of it as well. The controversy surrounding Jameis Winston hit a fever pitch during much of the 2014 season. Whether it was the never-ending reports, columns and speculation involving a sexual assault allegation that he was never charged with, a suspension for uttering profanity on campus, walking out of a grocery store with $32 worth of crab legs, or numerous other minor incidents, the 24/7 news cycle was relentless when it came to FSU’s starting quarterback.
