Following the success of a 10-win season and a No. 1 or No. 2 ranked recruiting class (depending on which service you follow), Jimbo Fisher and his coaching staff have continued their momentum on the recruiting trail for the class of 2012.
Of the Seminoles nine' early verbal commitments, two are five-star recruits and seven are ranked in the Rivals250. The only two left out of Rivals' top rankings are kicker Roberto Aguayo (kickers are rarely ever given 4 or more stars and Aguayo is considered one of the nation's best prep kickers) and offensive lineman Alphonse Taylor. And Taylor will likely receive a four-star ranking once Rivals.com has a chance to evaluate him personally (he's ranked in the top 150 by another service).
Florida State's amazing start to the 2012 class could get another boost today depending on what linebacker Dillon Lee says at 6:15 p.m. The Rivals250 member plans to announce his decision between several schools from Buford High School.
While dozens of schools have offered scholarships including big name programs such as Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, USC and Florida, most believe it's a two-team race between Florida State and Alabama - two schools he has visited within the past couple months.
Lee visited FSU's campus twice within the past few weeks, but was accompanied by his mother on his most recent trip. It's that trip which has put the 'Noles in a great position to secure the hard-hitting linebacker's services.
"That weekend was to sell her on what I liked so much with the visit the week earlier," Lee said of his most recent FSU visit. "She ended up liking FSU a lot. She came away very impressed with Coach Jimbo Fisher. She says he was so easy to talk to. That is what immediately stuck out for her on the visit."
Should Lee commit to Florida State, he would become the eighth prospect ranked in the Rivals250 or higher (80%) to pledge to the 'Noles for next year's signing class. By comparison, 14 of the 29 signees (48.3%) from the No. 2 ranked 2011 class were within the top 250 or higher.
If Lee ultimately signs with FSU next February, he is expected to play middle linebacker.
In leading his team to a state title in 2010, Lee racked up 84 tackles, nine sacks and five interceptions on defense. On offense, he added 13 catches for 349 yards and eight touchdowns.
Lee is ranked 11th in the state of Georgia by UGASports.com for the class of 2012.
