Rookie Preview: Blake Snider
For the average person, a summer vacation is a time to relax and get away from everything. That's not the case for Florida State 2008 class member Blake Snider, who is spending his vacation in the Sunshine State this week. Instead of catching some rays by the beach, the offensive line signee from Alabama was more concerned with finding a gym where he could work out. That mindset describes the Heflin (AL) Cleburne County offensive guard perfectly.

When Snider committed to Florida State back in February, his coach said the Seminoles got a 'steal' largely because of his work ethic. Snider, who graduated on May 20th, committed expecting to greyshirt but with some recent developments on the offensive line that situation may be changing.
"I am thinking that it is going to change but as of right now greyshirting is still the plan," Snider told Warchant.com. "Coach Trickett had told me that if some people got hurt and some other things happened that I probably wouldn't greyshirt. I know some things have happened."
The 6-foot-4, 280-pound lineman says he will be ready whenever he officially joins the team this summer or next January.
"I am ready right now," Snider said. "I would like to not greyshirt. It doesn't matter to me really when I join them. When I committed it was as a greyshirt so if that is what it ends up being I am fine with that. I am not going to be disappointed if I greyshirt."
While the sleeper lineman may not play for Florida State this fall, he will get to know his future teammates starting in just a few weeks.
"I will be reporting on June 21st," Snider said. "I will be pretty much part of the team as a greyshirt until August rolls around. Then it is just like I am not. I will work out, run with them, and watch film up until that point. I just cannot practice."
The Heflin, Alabama native says that if he does sit out the fall semester, he will likely return home and get a job until he can report in January.
When he does begin to practice, Snider expects to line up on the interior of the offensive line.
"Coach Trickett hasn't really told me. It will be on the interior of the line, guard or center," he said. "I haven't ever played center before."
While football is his future in college, Snider just ended his prep career in another sport – baseball.
"We got beat in the first round of the playoffs," Snider said. "We were pretty good but ran into some bad luck and got beat in the first round. I played at first base. I batted .398 and had eight homeruns on the season. That was about it."
Warchant.com will continue to keep up with Snider and see if the player who Rick Trickett said he was "tickled to death to have" greyshirts this fall.
