ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - There aren't many teams hotter than Florida State and its recruiting efforts. The Seminoles have picked up five commitments in the last 30 days.
That trend continued on Thursday when four-star wide receiver Travis Rudolph of Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) announced his commitment to Florida State during the Under Armour All-America game at Tropicana Field. He picked the 'Noles over Alabama and Auburn.
Playing for a national championship has its advantages and the Seminoles are reaping the rewards. Defensive end Lorenzo Featherston and running back Dalvin Cook also pledged to the 'Noles during Under Armour practices.
Rudolph maintained thoughout the week that Alabama was his leader, but in the end his heart was at Florida State.
"My feelings about FSU are great," Rudolph told Warchant.com on Sunday. "I have a great relationship with all the coaches at Florida State. I really think highly of Coach (Jimbo) Fisher, who I could tell really takes time to watch my highlights. I think very highly of FSU because its offense is doing great, it's not just a one-dimensional offense where they do just one thing."
Rudolph was one of the most dominating receivers in practices this week, making a strong case for a bump in the Rivals rankings. He could even earn a fifth star. Rivals Southeast Analyst Kynon Codrington says Rudolph is the best receiver in the country.
"Travis is the best receiver in the state and I believe his route running separates him from a lot of receivers because of how quickly he can get out of his routes," Codrington said. "Much of the same way Jerry Rice did when he played. It's
very hard to figure out where Travis is going on his routes."
Rudolph is Florida State's 29th commitment in the 2014 recruiting class. He joins C.J. Worton and JoJo Robinson in the wide receiver corp. He's currently ranked as the No. 42 player in the country, the No. 5 wide receiver nationally and the No. 5 player in the state of Florida.
